Sometimes a transaction at a familiar merchant doesn't belong in its usual category. For example, Costco is usually Groceries — but you made a one-time electronics purchase there.
The problem: The statement just says COSTCO WHOLESALE CANTON MI — it doesn't tell you what you bought. Two ways to handle this:
Option A: Edit the description first (recommended)
1. Click ✏️ on the transaction and add what you bought, e.g., COSTCO WHOLESALE CANTON MI - IPAD PRO
2. Click 🔧 New on the edited transaction
3. Click COSTCO and IPAD to build the rule COSTCO+IPAD → Electronics
This approach documents what you bought AND creates a reusable rule — any future Costco iPad purchase would match automatically.
Option B: Use the date chip
1. Click 🔧 New on the transaction
2. Click the 📅 03/15/2026 date chip and COSTCO to build 03/15/2026+COSTCO → Electronics
This is quicker but only matches that one specific transaction.
Why both work: COSTCO+IPAD or 03/15/2026+COSTCO (2 terms each) both beat the generic COSTCO (1 term). All other Costco trips still match the Groceries rule.
Either way, nothing you've already categorized changes — only this one transaction moves.
