🔧 New opens the Rule Builder, which gives you full control over the matching rule:
The transaction description is split into clickable word chips. Click a word to cycle through three states:
• Green (+) — Required. The transaction must contain this word to match.
• Red (−) — Excluded. The transaction must NOT contain this word.
• Gray — Ignored. This word doesn't affect matching.
You can also click the 🏦 account chip (purple) to scope the rule to a specific account. This is especially useful for brokerage accounts where generic terms like "BUY" or "SELL" should only match on that account.
Example: For a Schwab brokerage account, you might click BUY, click the 🏦 Schwab •••6734 chip, and assign to "Brokerage IRA". The "BUY" rule will only match transactions on that account.
Tip: For straightforward merchants (Costco, Netflix, Shell), clicking the single most distinctive word is usually all you need. Reach for the − (exclude) and 🏦 account chips when you want precision — ambiguous names, account-specific rules, or carving out exceptions.
